Eventually Ao Nang may end up a tourist resort like Patong and risk losing its special appeal. Some are pimped with fancy sound systems<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Most of the longtails to Railay, Phra Nang and Poda leave from the western end of Ao Nang beach. Satellite map curtesy of Google Maps.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Red Ginger resort was recommended by Experience Travel and appeared to be a destination focusing mainly on guests from northern Europe and Scandinavia.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t come across many from the UK during our stay.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_387\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a class=\"wp-caption-text\">The pool and swim up bar viewed from room 216.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The hotel has around 64 rooms and an excellent pool including swim up bar. \u00a0Some of the ground floor rooms have direct access to the pool.\u00a0 Breakfast is on the upper floor overlooking the pool and provides an excellent selection of continental as well as more authentic Thai dishes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption-text\">Breakfast at the Red Ginger Chic resort<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Red Ginger is in an excellent position to explore Ao Nang, though located at the quieter end of town.\u00a0 Our only minor criticism of the hotel facilities was the very limited storage in the rooms, which meant you had to live out of the suitcases.\u00a0 A minor drawback though, otherwise the rooms were excellent, class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red Ginger pool at night<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>The beaches<\/h2>\n<p>The range of beaches on offer at Ao Nang must make it one of the top holiday destinations in Thailand.\u00a0 And its not just the sandy beaches, but the imposing limestone cliffs that bookmark and tower over the beaches.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_408\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption This is the western end tucked away against the hillside.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Ao Nang<\/h2>\n<p>The main beach at Ao Nang offers plentiful options for renting parasols, chairs, refreshments and massages. beach<\/h2>\n<p>Railay can only be reached by sea.\u00a0 Numerous longtails sail from Ao Nang and Nopparat beaches and you can simply buy a return ticket from the booth on either beach.\u00a0 Note (it\u2019s just a footpath though, hardly a \u201cstreet\u201d) through the hotels lead to Railay East, an attractive beach with mangroves, but far less expanse of sand (and more like mud when the tide is out).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/terrystacy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/2024cDSC_3536.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-397\" under the impressive limestone cliffs.\u00a0 There were numerous climbers ascending the limestone cliffs both here and at Railay East.<\/p>\n<p>This is a truly beautiful beach for swimming, sunbathing (it faces south), climbing or even feeding the monkeys.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_439\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a As long as the tide is not fully in you can walk most of the way around the island (walking clockwise).
